Mr Cranky, Dryer Vent Cleaner, Screen Repair Man and Window Repair Man are all run by the same family team — Iain and Jo, a British husband-and-wife duo raising two kids and proudly serving homeowners across Ontario.
Our story isn’t a marketing invention. It’s a long road of hands-on work, problem-solving, and learning what actually matters to homeowners.
From the British Army to Canadian Homes
Before tools and ladders, Iain served 6½ years in the British Army, including active service during the 1991 Gulf War. That experience shaped everything we do today — discipline, accountability, showing up when we say we will, and doing the job properly the first time.
In 2004, our family moved to Canada, where Iain worked repairing large industrial mailing machines for Pitney Bowes. It was highly technical, mechanical work — diagnosing problems, fixing what others couldn’t, and keeping critical systems running.
By 2008, after years of desk work and running online businesses, it became clear something was missing: real, practical work that actually helped people face-to-face.
How One Service Turned Into Many
In 2011, that change became real with the launch of a small window cleaning business.
What we quickly discovered was this:
most homeowners didn’t need cleaner windows — they needed working ones.
From there, everything grew naturally:
Window cranks and hinges that no longer opened
Screens torn, bent, or thrown away when they could be repaired
Dryer vents clogged, crushed, or never installed properly
Foggy glass that didn’t need full window replacement
Patio doors so heavy people stopped using them altogether
These weren’t upsells — they were problems homeowners were living with every day and didn’t realize could be fixed for a fraction of replacement cost.
So we learned the systems, sourced the parts, and built services around what actually mattered:
safety, function, and common sense repairs.
