General Window Repair FAQs

Do I need to replace my windows or can they be repaired?

In most cases, your windows can be repaired. We specialize in fixing broken parts like hinges, cranks, balances, locks, and foggy glass — saving you thousands compared to full window replacement.

How do I know if my window is worth repairing?

If the frame is still in good condition, the window is almost always repairable. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair makes sense or not — no pressure, no upselling.

Are window repairs guaranteed?

Yes. All of our window repairs are backed by a 12-month workmanship guarantee.

How long does a typical window repair take?

Most repairs are completed in under an hour, depending on the issue and window type.

Why won’t my single or double hung window stay open?

This is usually caused by broken spiral balances, springs, window shoes, or locking tabs. These parts wear out over time and can be replaced without replacing the entire window.

My sash window drops shut or falls forward — what causes that?

This happens when internal support parts fail, especially brittle plastic window shoes or broken locking tabs that can no longer hold the sash in place.

Do you replace balances and springs in sash windows?

Yes. We replace broken spiral balances, springs, window shoes, locking tabs, and locks for single and double hung windows.

Do I need to replace the whole window if it won’t stay open?

Almost never. We carry common sash window parts and can usually restore proper operation on the first visit.

What if my window crank spins but doesn’t open the window?

This usually means the internal gears in the window operator are stripped. The crank mechanism can be replaced without changing the window.

Can broken window cranks be repaired or do they need replacement?

In most cases, the operator needs replacement — which we can do quickly and cost-effectively.

Do you carry replacement window crank parts?

Yes. We carry a wide range of common window crank operators, arms, and handles.

Do you sell window crank parts?

No. We run a mobile service where we have fully equipped vehicles that come to you.

My window manufacturer is no longer in business, can you still repair them?

Most of the time we can repair windows even when the manufacturer  is no longer in business.

We have been told parts are no longer available for our windows?

We can sometimes retro fit other window parts to make your windows still function.

What causes window hinges to fail?

Window hinges wear out due to age, corrosion, weight of the sash, homes settling and repeated use. When hinges fail, windows can sag, bind, tilt outwards or become difficult to close.

Can window hinges be replaced without replacing the window?

Absolutely. Hinge replacement is a common repair and far cheaper than window replacement.

Can just 1 window hinge be replaced?

We always recommend both upper and lower hinge be replaced at the same time. We use an adjustable hinge to cope with homes shifting.

What causes foggy or misty windows?

Foggy glass is caused by a failed seal in the insulated glass unit, allowing moisture to enter between the panes.

Do foggy windows mean I need new windows?

No. We replace just the glass unit, not the entire window, restoring clarity and insulation.

Is foggy glass replacement permanent?

Yes. We install new sealed thermal glass units designed to last.

Do you drill the window to remove the fog?

No. If it worked we would do it, however it does not work. Why does it not work, simply because the seal is broken meaning the rubber holding the 2 pieces of glass together has perished. Drilling and cleaning still leaves a broken seal so you will end up needing to replace the glass when it fogs up again.

Why is my sliding patio door hard to open?

Worn or broken rollers are usually the cause. Dirt, rust, or collapsed rollers make doors heavy and difficult to slide.

Can patio door rollers be replaced?

Yes. We replace worn rollers and adjust the door so it glides smoothly again.

Do I need a new sliding door if it’s hard to move?

In most cases, no. Roller replacement is far more cost-effective than door replacement.

The track for my sliding door is damaged, can this be replaced?

Yes. we can often cap the top of the track with a thin piece of metal that gives new life to your door. Normally the rollers would need changing at the same time.

Do you repair window and door screens?

Yes. We rescreen window screens and sliding screen doors and can often repair the existing frame.

Should I throw away my old screen door frame?

No keep it. Most screen frames can be repaired and rescreened, saving you money.

My window frames are bent, can they be fixed?

Yes. Most screen frames we can straighten or replace just the broken side(s).

I am missing screens on my windows, do you make new screens?

Yes. Our mobile service can make screens onsite to match your existing screens if need be.

Are you a family-run business?
